UAH Temperature Update for Feb. 2011: -0.02 deg. C « Roy Spencer, Ph. D. (http://www.drroyspencer.com/2011/03/uah-temperature-update-for-feb-2011-0-02-deg-c/)

Thats the graph for the average global weather temperature

Sas will be along later to explain the difference

Actually, that's really from the thermometer at the bottom of my garden.

The real graph looks like this:

I listened to him. In the third minute he went on to tell us about a place where we can get free money and shoes, and in the fourth minute, all the free handbags you can carry.

Piracy is causing global warming.

Anyone know if they're man made pirates, or is all this piracy naturally occuring?

Free money = Setting up a windfarm and get paid 10x the market rate for whatever energy you generate

Free solar panels worth £12,000: Save £120/year on your electricity... (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/free-solar-panels#profit)

If you can shell out c.£12,000 for your own system, it’s possible to grab c.£23,000 in payments for the energy you produce.

This is all about the Govt’s new ‘feed-in tariff’ scheme. The scheme, which replaced solar panel grants, means electricity companies have to pay people who produce electricity from renewable energy sources such as wind and the sun.

It's reckoned that you'll get £800/year though this is not guaranteed, it's an estimate, so you must do your sums first. The key to this is ...

The system costs £12,500, but over 25 years the feed-in payments could net you £23,000.

Boomed!

yup definitely brrrrr...

You can scoff, but picture that is actually a lot more ominous than it looks.

Sorry if I've mentioned this, but as I student I worked in an ice cream factory, where every now and then they would defrost the huge walk-in freezers.

These were normally at -20C, and of course the cold would hit you as soon as you walked in. But curiously, it wasn't normally perceptibly colder just outside the plastic flaps by the door. Even if you stood there, you'd hardly realize the freezer was nearby behind the flaps.

But once they had started defrosting, it was noticeably damp and cold outside for a considerable distance from the entrance, even as the freezer was getting much warmer, relatively speaking, inside. ...

The moral of the story is don't assume that cold and damp in our neck of the woods must mean all is well at higher latitudes. If anything, the opposite is more likely to be true ...

I thought you got paid to shut them down and not annoy everyone.

Isn't this the environmental version of a protection racket..

'Cold' defined here as 'fractionally below the average for 1979 - 1998'. The average temperature for each of those decades being warmer than the last btw.

I see how this works, back when we had snow in December while the global temperature had just shown the warmest figure on record (http://news.sciencemag.org/sciencenow/2010/12/nasa-2010-meteorological-year-wa.html) , then it is the local conditions that matter (http://forums.contractoruk.com/general/61966-winter-you-aint-seen-nothing-yet.html#post1245740).

When the global temperatures fluctuate downwards, driven by La Nina, while Spring arrives locally, why then of course it is the global figure that we need to be mindful of.

Thanks. Got that. :smile

Indeed it's cooling ....and your "warming heyday" is coming to an end.

:smile

Nice day here anyway. I'm off for a jog. Pity all the cow pats will be a bit too cold for a spot of pleasuring.

The highly respected former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt said this about the IPCC at a recent talk:

The publications provided by an international group of scientists (the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC) have encountered skepticism, especially since some of their researchers have shown themselves to be fraudsters (Betrger).

http://bishophill.squarespace.com/blog/2011/3/6/schmidt-calls-ipcc-fraudsters.html

Lets all guess which one of them are fraudsters.

I'll start. I spy with my little eye a fraudster beginning with "Phil".

This is the same Roy Spencer who has stated:

"Twenty years ago, as a PhD scientist, I intensely studied the evolution versus intelligent design controversy for about two years. And finally, despite my previous acceptance of evolutionary theory as 'fact,' I came to the realization that intelligent design, as a theory of origins, is no more religious, and no less scientific, than evolutionism. . . . In the scientific community, I am not alone. There are many fine books out there on the subject. Curiously, most of the books are written by scientists who lost faith in evolution as adults, after they learned how to apply the analytical tools they were taught in college."

and

"I finally became convinced that the theory of creation actually had a much better scientific basis than the theory of evolution, for the creation model was actually better able to explain the physical and biological complexity in the world... Science has startled us with its many discoveries and advances, but it has hit a brick wall in its attempt to rid itself of the need for a creator and designer."

Both quotations from wikipedia. Perhaps people think this is relevant to his scientific credibility and perhaps they don't.

Not totally convinced about evolution myself but then if there was a creator who created him? A set of guiding laws that grew from nothing or has always existed is no less credible than an intelligent being who did so.

The concept of god is not any sort of solution, just a means of ducking the questions.
