    This Weekend

Yes, I know It's only Tuesday but I can't wait for Saturday.

Gonna get my mower out and give the lawn its first trim of the year. Might get one more season out of my Mountfield rotary and then I'm looking at investing in a Hayter with a roller.Currently it's a 2 stage operation - first a buzz over with the Mountfield then I apply stripes with my Ransomes cylinder.

The only chore I really enjoy doing!

Also I want to prepare clams casino. Does anyone know if clams are easily procured in the UK? My local stockist doesn't have them and I certainly wouldn't buy from a supermarket. I saw that C4 Documentary that discovered that the so called fresh stuff you see on the counter has sometimes been frozen in blocks of ice for months on end.

If you don't know, don't eat them.

In general, start from what you know is good, then choose your menu from that; rather than starting from what you would like, then hoping that you can find it.

Applies especially to eating seafood, but probably also to life in general.

Oh, I know It's good! Clams Casino was a favourite of mine from when I used to hang in Martha's Vineyard.

I was all ready for getting the mower out last weekend but the weather turned and I couldn't. I used to own a Webb self prop cylinder mower and it was the mutts nuts.
However I had to let it go and I will be looking at getting a new mower this cutting season.

I meant the opposite of that: start from what you know you can obtain in quality materials. Don't start from what you know you want, then merely hope that the materials you can obtain are good enough.

I've got a Hayter Roller Rotary and it's quite good and covers a lot of ground (I've got Harrier '56). However the problem is that because it's a rotary you have to wait until the grass is reasonably dry before you can cut it. With hindsight, for the best lawn stripes you can't beat a forward cylinder blade cut followed with a roller - you can also cut your lawn when slightly wet without ripping the grass out.
