    Yet another Agent email

    Lucky, lucky me!

    Should I name and shame?

As you may be aware since November the market place has began to flourish, the last 6 months have seen drastic changes throughout various sectors and industries, with the overall consensus demonstrating a need for growth. As a vertical market specialist with XXXXX XXXXX for Software Development, my focus is to place IT staff in the Permanent market within XXXX and the surrounding areas and I am looking for fresh and innovative candidates to support through the recruitment process.

I would like to offer my assistance to you in pursuing the market place today to help you achieve your potential and seek new opportunities. I have short-listed your CV as part of a high calibre candidate search and would be happy to represent you in your search for employment. Have you ever wanted to work for a particular company or industry and been unsure where to start? Or perhaps you have made attempts to find out who is hiring but been unsuccessful in finding the right point of contact? With my market knowledge and extensive client database, I would be able to add value to your search by providing an insightful approach and represent you in your best light to the hiring managers and technical points of contact.

Working exclusively with an experienced agent like myself, I would be able to participate in active marketing, which means I would produce documentation of your skills and experience to the company’s that capture your interest. This means I could gain first hand knowledge of what is happening in their business to find out how your skill set would fit in with their teams and whether or not they are hiring now or in the foreseeable future. As well as keeping you up dated with the market place, I could gain feedback from Technical points of contact on your CV.

This is an excellent way to explore different avenues for your recruitment agenda and it has proven to be successful in the past.

What I ask of you today is to send me across your latest CV, and a list of 5 company’s that you would like to work for that I would contact on your behalf. As well as this, please feel free to summarise your skill set and highlight any niche skills that may be used as a unique selling tool.

It would be a pleasure to work with you and I look forward to your response. Please email me at XXXXX and work with me today.

I mean really, does he seriously think I need them to call up a company on my behalf (forgetting the fact he focuses on permie, and my CV clearly shows I'm a contractor).

There are an awful lot of "I's" and "me's" in the OP's quoted drivel from an agent.

Which indicates an over-inflated sense of self-worth and an egotism bordering on the maniacal.

OP : There's no need to name and shame. I think we can all believe without proof that this is indeed a bona fide communication from a Rec Con.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

nope that's the point, no thought is required. it's called scatter gun marketing - fuzzy keyword search across cv database, poorly worded email that treats you like simpleton, hit 'send to all' job done! unbelievably you can actually earn money doing this...

still like Nigerian email scams they only need 1% to respond to make it worthwhile and those Nigerian scams have been around since the 70's can't see agent spam going anywhere soon, thank god for spam filters

I've just had one hiring for a project that will use "an agile/waterfall methodology"

I suspect they are one of those places that thinks agile means
                  (a) Weekly incremental pushes from development to test
                  (b) Six-monthly heart-stoppingly huge pushes from test to production.

Fail for that agent due to their use of random apostrophes (aside from other obvious reasons).
