This Libya no fly zone thing..

Gaddafi tanks attack town, no U.N. move yet | Reuters

Is this going to be a case of closing the door after the horse has bolted if they 'discuss' it any longer?

What happens if they decide to go ahead with it after Ghadaffi has taken benghazi and pretty much crushed the uprising? Will it be Iraq 2.0?

Basically, they will procrastinate for as long as they can, until such time as the primary rebel offensive has disintergrated, down to a handful of people and a rather angry goat.

At this point, they will publically announce to great fanfare that they are now able to impose a no-fly zone over Libya, but will then retract it, as the party is all over. As a token gesture, they may send a few Tiger Moths to patrol on the border of Libya (the border being where Libya meets Malta).

Gadaffi stays in power, the rebels are crushed, and the UN can say that they did something. Everyone's happy.

Except for the angry goat of course, which gets halal butchered and eaten as part of a celebration.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

In essence these'so called rebels turn out to be what Gadddafi has labeled Al queda terrorists - and he is probably not far off the mark .

I hear that Isreal - on the basis of better the Devil you know - was backing Gaddafii too - which might just explain why they got Zero effwective support - just some angry words.

Gaddafii can take the moral ground now and next year we will sell him more arms.

      Sorted.

On the C4 News last night, they had a report in which one of these Al Qaeda people was paraded by the authorities in front of western journalists. C4 did some research & it turned out the guy was a British citizen from Glasgow & had trained with some Yemeni terror group.

A couple of weeks ago, we were all told that Gaddaffi's claims of Al Qaeda involvement were the rantings of a madman

They are the rantings of a madman, it doesn't mean he isn't right though

Just like Iran saying the protests in Bahrain shouldn't be put down by force, sometimes they can be right even if its for the wrong reasons

We should organise an immediate Bryan Adams concert in Tripoli.

What have the Libyans done to deserve that

Haven't they suffered enough under Gadaffi ?

You are right Alf, if the rebels take control, we might end up with a state that sponsors terrorism,
                    unlike Gaddaffi.

mind you, they'll probably make Al-Magraghi ambassador to Scotland
