Why bother paying for the healthcare, that should bring the cost of the pensions down naturally.

    Simples.

Not paying a winter fuel allowance would be nature's way. Better perhaps than years of incontinent dribbling in a care home that takes your dignity, house and savings?

Umm. The baby boomers paid their taxes and pension contributions. On top of that they were asked to get private pensions.

The private pensions got raided by Gordon Brown.
Other pension schemes go bust or some boss runs of with the money and “Jumps off his yacht”.
The government spend the pension money subsidizing arms manufacturing and spending on wars.
No money left in the pot, blame the general public and tax them even more.

Maybe we should fill the care homes up with the writings of Seneca ( 60 AD aprox), he advocated suicide when you could no longer participate in the things that make life worth living.

Note:- This may impact earlier with marriage.

In Scandinavia, back in Viking days, if some old person was ailing they'd be lifted and dropped into a large basket and left with no food or water.

If the person couldn't climb out, they didn't get out ...

                  Usual DailyMail xaggeration.

How much can taxes "soar" ? It could go up by about 10% in the worst case sceneario. Any more and the public will be out to lynch the government.

I should be able to manage okay with that kind of tax increase.

Maybe you, but not the people who already have negative disposable income.
