    Tempting

Travel Hammock / Bivi - DD Hammocks

    Advantages over a tent:
    • With no metal bits and with its smaller size, the potential of fitting all camping gear into a single aircraft cabin bag beckons. For cheap destinations, avoiding the cargo hold to store a rucksack containing a tent can almost half the flight cost
    • May not need a rucksack, just a single sports bag
    • May feel a bit weird using it at a camp site, hence would likely end up on saving on camp site costs too
    • May be quite comfortable to sleep in?
    • Seems practical for warm climes. If there are no trees to hang from, it also serves as a bivvy (small tent)
    • Good stealth factor
    • Even more freedom than a tent - no more needing to return to a camp site in the evening, or even need to search for a camp site

A tent can be seen from outer space, especially the luminous orange or yellow ones as sold in shops. A hammock is more stealthy and can be used in places where a tent wouldn't work. Camping isn't encouraged in some places.

And I might add, some of those wooded places on a cliff top overlooking an azure ocean whose waves lap gently in the wind would probably be locations restricted to the VIP or political classes for you hotel users/suckers. For free.

Are zealous farmers using satellite surveillance to spot campers?

Probably not, but it's nice not to be a blot on the landscape anyway. A hammock doesn't even leave a mark on the ground.

Thats actually pretty cool, and has just gone on my list of kit for a potential plan for next year.
