If a contract comes up its going to be a case of getting everything sorted quickly. Is there any advantage in getting ltd company set up in advance etc?

Obviously, I dont want to spend too much in case I end up going permie and never using company.

If you are not going Brolly then the Agency will want your Co. detail's for the contract paperwork so it is worth having that sorted in advance. You can get this done in 24 hours for £15-£20 depending on who you use for it.

After that the rest can wait till you have a gig. Co. Bank account should take no more than a week, VAT registration one to two weeks, if you are going to use an accountant then you can get them to sort PAYE/NI registration etc for you or do it yourself.

The best thing to do is find an accountancy firm in advance that you would probably like to use - make sure they PCG accredited.

Check that they will set up a company for you free. Then they will sort out all the paperwork of setting up a company and get it over to you asap.

In regards to banks HSBC will be able to set up a bank account giving your bank account numbers, that day as long as you have all the right paperwork to hand.

It appears some posters on here have been contracting a good number of months and still haven't grasped the very basic facts of running a LTD so it's going to be a hell of learning curve so quick.

If you are really not sure you are going to continue contract or want to concentrate on your contract first and deal with the technicalities of LTD co life when it suits you go Brolly first.

It isn't the most tax efficient to be sure but if you need a bit of time or are not sure you will continue after the first few months you haven't really lost much but had a nice easy intro.

It's an option.

There aren't that many technicalities if you have a decent accountant to manage your affairs. Agree though to go down the brolly route initially if preferred whilst you find your contracting feet.
