    Spanish exports rise 32% year-on-year to January! (Just don't look at the trade deficit figures)

    La Moncloa. Spanish exports grow 32% year-on-year in January

    The leading export sectors in Spain for January 2011 were the capital goods sector (17.5% of the monthly total) and the automotive sector (16.5% of the total).

    The export of capital goods grew by 38% year-on-year. Per heading, the export of transport material increased by 57.7% and the export of machinery for industry rose by 19.8%. Exports from the automotive sector (16.5% of the monthly total) grew by 19%. Per heading, there was an increase of 31.3% in the export of components and of 13.8% in the export of finished vehicles.

    The export of chemical products (15.1% of the monthly total) and food products (15.8% of the total) recorded year-on-year growth of 28.3% and 22.9%, respectively, while the export of non-chemical semi-manufactured goods (11.4% of the total) rose by 29.4%. Finally, the export of consumer manufactured goods (8% of the total) increased by 18.5%.

    In terms of imports, the import of energy products (23.3% of the monthly total) increased by 59.5% year-on-year in January 2011. Per heading, growth of 63.8% was recorded in the import of oil and another 43.1% in the import of gas. The import of non-energy products (76.7% of the total) increased by 18.2%.

    The import of capital goods (17.3% of the total) increased by 14.6% year-on-year and the import of chemical products (13.9% of the monthly total) rose by 15%.

    Imports in the automotive sector (10.3% of the total) recorded growth of 2%, due to an increase of 18.6% in imported components that was partially offset by a drop of 22.8% in finished vehicles.

    Finally, the import of consumer manufactured goods (10.5% of the total) and food products (9.9% of the total) grew by 18.9% and 27.6% year-on-year, respectively.
