    My contract terms and conditions

Hi- I have a 1 month notice period in my contract. Mine is a 3 months rolling contract with the agency. It seems unfair- the notice period is at my disadvantage as I lose out on other contract opportunities where you have to join in a week's notice.
What's an ideal notice period for such short term contracts?

I always ask for a reciprical termination clause.

BTW, getting money in lieu of notice period is a big no no for IR35. And that's advice from contract review specialists.

I already have a reciprocal clause..."either party can terminate this contract by giving 1 month notice......". However, I want to get-off earlier. I want to re-negotiate my notice period when it comes for extension. Its a 3 month T&M rolling contract, not a fixed price contract. So, I am not committed to any fixed deliverables. And, I know for sure that my agency will never invoke the termination clause because they are minting money on their T&M contract with the client. They would rather wait till the contract end date for them to let go of me. It will always be me who will have to invoke this notice period if i have to get off earlier, the shorter the better it is for me. Can I re-negotiate for a 1 week notice?

Simple answer is this. If you do not renegotiate, I am giving notice today. Unless you simply want the money. If you want the money, stop complaining. If you want the flexibility, then stand up, be a man, and say you want it. You can always in any contract renegotiate, you just need the balls to attempt it.

You must be mighty confident that your skills are in demand, if I were the agent I'd replace you with someone who doesn't kick up a fuss. Asking for a shorter notice period sends a certain message don't you think?

There seems to be trend with new contractors where they seem to think contracting is all about suiting their immediate needs rather than building business relationships and trust.
