    Stupid people

    Today they are out in force.

    Me : I cannot access the server.
    Techy : I can.
    Me : How does this help?
    Techy : Can you access the server?
    Me : Was I unclear in my statement "I cannot access the server"
    Techy : Strange, cos I can.

    Me : Hi can I get some data dictionaries / schema defs as I need to mine some data from your warehouse.
    DWHGuy : I cannot interpret your requirements. What fields specifically do you need?
    Me : Hard to tell you that without the schema defs.
    DWHGuy : I can't help you then.

    Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

    You could always offer to come in on Sat for £15 and fix this for them.

      Maybe it's "be obstructive to suity" day?

      Who have you pissd off lately?

          reminds me of my developer days:

          Tester: open Bug, blah blah is not working

          Developer: Reject bug, works on my machine

          tester: Reopen Bug, It really doesn't work
          Developer: Reject again, works on my machine

          and so on...
          McCoy: "Medical men are trained in logic."
          Spock: "Trained? Judging from you, I would have guessed it was trial and error."

                wonder if we work at the same place....

                find out what the system tables are for your DB version and ask him to run this query:

                <PSEUDOCODE>
                SELECT COLUMN_NAME, TABLE_NAME FROM SYSTEMTABLES
                </PSEUDOCODE>

                never know he may just do it and you'll see all tables and columns - Company IT Workers tend to be automotons are more likely to carry out instructions blindy so worth a pop
                sufficiently advanced stupidity is indistinguishable from malice - Asimov (sort of)

                there is no art in a factory, not even in an art factory - Mixerman

                everyone is stupid some of the time - trad.

                    although when the defect only happens on a system you don't have access to which you know hasn't been configured properly you do indeed get into Defect Tennis as as the dev there isn't much you can do about it
