    Solar panels

Bloke opposite me has had his roof covered in solar panels.
Reckons it cost him £10k, and he will get his money back in ten years

he drives one of them prius cars as well.

I dont see how it can pay for itself in ten years

Then tragically he is only a short hop away from an eco-shed and a penis enlarger.
Is he generally regarded as the oddball of the area?
There is a pattern to these things apparently.

      He's potty.

Currently, PV solar panels are about 15% efficient; but in a few years, perhaps as few as 5 years, they'll be cheaper and more like 40% efficient.

he lives on his own in a 4 bedroom, my neighbour opposite is a chatty postwoman, she reckons he is desperately lonely.
This morning, i was doing the lawn, she came over and said he had started on about earth day and contrails, she said, 'it was either come away to talk to you, or gnaw one of my legs off'

yes but if 15% could power my house, all year, i could understand it

but what does 15% efficiency equate to, in terms of you bill. assume 1.5k a year, for the sake of argument

That's like saying people who bought early Altair were idiots who should have waited until Apple arrived.

If I even mentioned buying one of those I would be kicked out the house.

Hmmm, maybe that might work out.

He's got to save a grand a year. How high were his bills before he fitted them?

Do they knock out more heat on a sunny day than he can use? There's only so much hot water you can use in summer.

Will they knock out enough heat in winter to make a noticeable dent in his bills?

It isn't a simple formula, and as for the Prius, ask hum what he'll do with the batteries when they have reached their end of life.
