    Boomed!

FT.com / UK / Economy & Trade - UK GDP grows by 0.5% in first quarter

The UK economy grew by 0.5 per cent in the first quarter as it rebounded from a contraction of 0.5 per cent in the fourth quarter of last year that had been largely caused by heavy snow.

Can we stop printing money now, or do we have to see what the weather forecast is like first?

    Grew you say

Growth in both the final quarter of 2010 and the first quarter of 2011 was effectively zero. The index value of the UK's total economic output is back at the same level as in the third quarter of last year, at 99.6%
0.5% of 99.6% is slightly less than 0.5% of 100% so we're still in recession.

Some more rebounding stuff... should we talk about 0.5% growth in the first quarter

    or

0% for the last two quarters, not exactly booming is it? By Brazil / China standards they've left the planet earth and colonised nearby star systems.
