I liked this story Royal wedding: police criticised for pre-emptive strikes against protesters | UK news | The Guardian

The protester had only got a few bars into his version of the Beatles' Yellow Submarine, recast as "we all live in a fascist regime", when the plain clothes officers moved in.
By the time the marriage vows had been made, the police had imposed a section 60 blanket stop-and-search order around the whole royal wedding zone...The move allowed officers to search people without discretion.
It's easy to hide all this behind the beauty and the spectacle and the tiaras of the wedding but when people with opposing political ideas are being rounded up to keep them away from public view it doesn't make us any different from China,"
    Lovely our "freedom".
McCoy: "Medical men are trained in logic."
Spock: "Trained? Judging from you, I would have guessed it was trial and error."

I'd hope they'd do the same to tossers trying to spoil any wedding.

And if they hadn't, and someone had been shot? or bombed?

Extraordinary events do call for extraordinary measures, and I'm no fan of police abusing power. Yesterday these measures wouldn't have been acceptable. Tomorrow it wouldn't be acceptable. Today was different: there were children, and families, and innocents to protect in a heightened situation with known protagonists in the crowd. To believe everyone is safe enough to enjoy unbridled 'freedom' each and every day is just plain stupid, or rather, publicity-seeking.
Oh, I’m sorry….I seem to be lost. I was looking for the sane side of town. I’d ask you for directions, but I have a feeling you’ve never been there and I’d be wasting my time.

She did as it happens. The first royal who I definitely would.

If her sister didn't get it first.

And her mum's a bit of a fox as well... am I beginning to sound like Alan Clark?

Worst of all the clause in the Parliament Act 1911 which limits the duration of a Parliament to five years ,Habeas Corpus Act 1679, Bill of Rights 1689 can all be overtured. The only Act of Parliament which may not be amended by emergency regulations is the Human Rights Act 1998.

Rumpled crotch syndrome and the big trousers society | Politics | The Guardian

                  Starts with a fun paragraph.

Politicians usually hate being upstaged by royals and celebs. But yesterday the few who were invited were as one in a single, joyous thought: "I'm here, and Blair isn't!"
                  Entirely reasonable I think
