Giant asteroid heading close to Earth - Telegraph

A giant asteroid weighing 55 million tonnes will just miss the Earth later this year, Nasa experts have predicted.

If it were to hit the earth, the asteroid, named YU55, would have an impact equivalent to 65,000 atom bombs and would leave a crater more than six miles wide and 2,000ft deep.

    Doomed!

2005 YU55, in February 2010 was rated with a value of 1. It was downgraded to 0* on 9 April 2010[10], but will make its closest approach to Earth within lunar distance in November 2011.

    * 0 = The likelihood of a collision is zero, or is so low as to be effectively zero. Also applies to small objects such as meteors and bodies that burn up in the atmosphere as well as infrequent meteorite falls that rarely cause damage.

It may miss Earth, but what about the moon?

Would it be a good thing to have the moon knocked out of orbit and into deep space? No more waves. What else?

What if it was canonned into the Earth.
Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

When they say "just miss" they don't mean that close.

And pocketed the Earth in the Sun? Nice.

Is this a euphemism for masturbating to news of an Extinction Level Event?

Wouldn't it be simpler to launch Prescott and Pickles into space to act as gravitational decoys?

They would collide with each other and form a black hole, dooming us all.

                  The recoil would be enormous.

Would that cause crash in house prices near year end?
