          this guys grandmother was almost as famous as he was, as a practitioner of alternative medicine. She invented (discovered?) a powerful anaethestic

            Hmm, well Virginia Apgar was a well-known anaesthesia specialist. But that Wikipedia article says she never married. So back to square one.
