Childbirth - NHS or Private?

If you had the money would you pay for your child to be delivered privately or through the NHS?

Bearing in mind that you actively minimise your tax laibilities and all that - when it comes to actually making use of these state resources do you use them or spend some of the money you've saved on tax efficiency on getting it done privately?

You assume private birth costs money.

Last time I checked, letting the wife have 16 hours of privacy in the forest, cost nothing.

We did go with NHS. They were good. The prenatal care involved quite a bit of waiting room action though.

Think very carefully about using private for childbirth

If it all goes belly up (sic) and there are complications - the private hospital will transfer you to the nearest NHS for advanced treatment / consultants which takes time... and time during childbirth can mean the difference between a healthy child or a problem you will have to live with for the rest of your lives

So to me it makes sense to be in the NHS to start with

Trouble is you have to share the facilities with the local chav/immigrant population both of which are breeding at prodigious rates

Mrs PRC had a private room in an NHS hospital. So the birth part was all NHS but she didn't have to recover in a ward full of the great unwashed.
