Is keeping current a concern for you?

Just finishing a gig where I worked as a BA for that past 18 months. I am a good BA, but prior to that had 14 years coming through the developer ranks. I just got felt up for a gig near to home paying the right money for a VB6 developer

Would you work with a legacy technology and not be fussed about getting a new gig afterwards or would you hang out for some bleeding edge .Net 2010 stuff?

For my next gig I want something like 50% dev 50% client facing as I do miss the tinkering.
    TIA

    Suity

PS Sorry for actually posting something about contracting. I shall atone with a thread about bhurka porn or my last Nargis kebab asap.
Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

Not really a concern, but I do want to learn something new ala C# purely to keep my brain ticking over. I'm a VB6 VBA dev and don't think it will be disappearing anytime soon, and no desire to move to be a BA.

I lost my ability to code years ago. I don't have any up to date development skills and built up to management, project management, business analysis, data modelling and technical architecture.

If I want a bod to develop something, I hire them.

Apply only for roles that interest you.
If you decide now what you want and don't get it you will be on here bitching, even if you get a good role.
You are a contractor, you get what the market wants.

Unless (like me ) you have a big enough warchest to be picky.

It depends on the market and the gig. I wouldn't want to get trapped dealing with code of yesteryear full time but I'm happy to put up with a bit of legacy maintenance work if there is a chance to do new development using modern technology and perhaps migrate the legacy code base over.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

I'll obviously be on here with a damp mattress within hours of starting any new role, it's my raison d'etre

Warchest is ok for a bit, but just don't like idling. This contract is of interest owing to nostalgia and the ease of the work, but I might get bored very quickly once the novelty wears off.

Thats why I take a few months off between gigs, after a few months not doing much, it's at least 6 months before I get bored. Then I can start the count down to the end of the contract and planning my next trip.

This time is will be a 14 city tour around south east Asia, can't wait
