    Fake or Fortune

BBC - BBC One Programmes - Fake or Fortune?, Monet

    Anyone see this last night?

A host of seemingly incontrovertible evidence that the picture really was by Claude Monet, but it still cannot be sold as such because only one family can authenticate officially and they say no because daddy said no and daddy was never wrong.

    Fascinating programme.

    Agreed - very interesting.

Those of us with a suspicious mind might think that the family are waiting for him to sell it on to a 'reputable' collector or dealer.

He could always go into the music business to make a bob or two in the meanwhile

It's been a while since there's been a decent cover of monet, monet

you are confused sir. that was money , money by some swedish dudes.
A more realistic proposition would be for him to write a three part book called 'Claude of the rings'

Billy Idols cover sure sounded like Monet Monet!

Sounds like "daddy" should have put his Monet where his mouth was!!

Absolutely my thoughts too when I read the write up regarding the programme and even more so after watching it.

The whole programme was fascinating from the fact that Monets account book was still in existence (and legible) to the photographs of paintings sent to Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil for his perusal to see if he wanted to buy any of them.

I can't imagine such detailed record keeping taking place nowadays.

The system they employ leaves the family open to unfortunate allegations.

And the Wildensteins are back, refusing to authenticate a Renoir.

How about Dires Straits' "Monet for nothing"?
