That Daily Mail article's quite selective. It goes on about MPs with 20+ years in office, but very few of them get anywhere near that. It also has an unpredictable effect on any other job prospects, though on average it improves them.

We have politicians in our country that keep their pensions the same but just ask for more backhanders so that the public wont think their greedy.

It rains a lot here? Well we have had insufficient rain this Winter, and the reservoirs are low, which means water shortages are on the horizon. The East of England is an area of drought with low rainfall. Fortunately the kindly Welsh have sacrificed some of their charming villages so that we have enough water for our golf courses, and Jacuzzis.

It may be Britain’s most popular participation sport but angling is too white and too middle-aged for the government, writes Bendan Bourne.

The Environment Agency is embarking on a campaign spending some of the £19m raised by selling fishing licences to attract Asian women and other ethnic minorities to the sport.

A pilot scheme in Swansea is using experts from the Salmon and Trout Association to teach Muslim women and children to fish. Similar schemes are expected to spawn across the country.

Researchers found only 7% of anglers were under 18, 5% were female and “very few” came from ethnic minorities.

A 10-point agency leaflet includes the mantra: “Angling does not discriminate against gender, race, age or athletic ability.”

However, farmer and countryside broadcaster Robin Page branded the idea “politically correct Britain gone mad”.

“It is utter nonsense. This is an insult to serious conservation,” he said.

Four million Britons already take to the banks of our muddied waterways, in what many see as a sport which spans the class divide.

According to the agency fishing boosts self-esteem and wellbeing. It adds that the sport can also prevent anti-social behaviour and help tackle underachievement and youth crime.

Richard Wightman, angling development manager for the Environment Agency said: “We have a corporate commitment to diversity. There is a huge number of social benefits.”
