Prospects for the UK economy versus competitors ...

Seems to me are not as bad as people make out. Manufacturing isn't going to suddenly make a reappearance any time soon, so forget that.
But future industries are biotech (especially with the aging populations in the west), mobile device design and software, new innovations in the finance industry (don't laugh Britain has been doing this for 400 years) and these play to the Uk's strengths.
There will always be jobs for the clever, but there really is no role for the underclass - that is the problem.
    Hard Brexit now!

Yes. But the clever have no desire to live in a country with diving living standards and high taxes.

That wouldn't be very clever of them. So the leave all the uneducated and work shy behind.

No but I'd like to see the government come up with some kind of road map setting out a vision to re establish ourselves as world leaders in manufacturing industries.

Yes, most this can be made at a fraction of the cost in China but do you get the quality?

I'd particularly like to see the re emergence of a car industry. Just look at Formula 1 - all the top teams, the best designers and engineers are based right here.

            WHS. Globalisation works both ways.

Not only can your job desert your country but you can too. Who wants to be one of the few "elite" brains here supporting a million chavs and hangers on with 90% taxes and double digit inflation.

Why not be the brains in a growing economy without all the debt and crippling taxes to deal with?

Why slog your guts out in Milton Keynes when you can do it in Sydney or Auckland or Singapore or Switzerland?

I personally don't give a stuff about this dead country. Globalisation works both ways. The best will leave and be replaced by more crap useless people with their hands out.

You do realise you pay more tax as a contractor in Germany than in the UK?
Or haven't you worked that out yet?
