    Oh dear: more job losses

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/mai...05/ixcity.html

The prospect of 10,000 jobs losses in the UK - add this to the jobs losses in the NHS and the closure of the Dunlop plant in Tyne and Wear - anyone care to have a go at defending the economy....your starter for 10

Don't worry. Fort Dunlop, closed in Brum for a long time is now a block of flashy apartments. As long as we're in debt, we're OK. Go get yourself a bigger mortgage.

Interesting, Gordo's budget speech including gems such as:

"Mr Brown capped civil servants' pay rises to an average of 2.25% - saying it meant more for frontline staff such as nurses."

"the country was entering its 10th year of uninterrupted growth, with the economy to grow by 2% to 2.5% in 2006/7 and so meet his fiscal rules.

Growth in 2007-08 was expected to be between 2.75% and 3.5%, while domestic demand was expected to grow this year by 2%-2.5% and 3%-3.25% in 2007-08.

He said net borrowing would fall from 2.4% of national income to 1.9% and in successive years, 1.6%, 1.6%, 1.6% and 1.5%.

Mr Brown said there would be a £16bn surplus on the current economic cycle up to 2011, which met his "golden rule".

He pledged to do more to back "our enterprise culture" and "modern manufacturing". "

      Yeah, right.

Tony and Cherie Bung are at the railway station

        waiting for a train.
Cherie notices a weight-and-fortune-telling machine on the platform, so for a laugh Tone hops on. There is a printout which Cherie picks up and starts to read.
"It says you're a well respected and trusted statesman"
Tone thinks, hmmnn, maybe there's something in this after all.
"It also says your cabinet are the very epitome of talent and energy"
        Wow, thinks Tone, amazing.
"It further says that you will go down in history as the man who saved the world from fundamentalist terrorism"
Tone is by now almost floating in the air with smug happiness.
"Oh it got your weight wrong too!"
        Why not?
