    Hearing Aid

At the risk of being ridiculed, anyone have any experience of acquiring a hearing aid for an elderly relative.

My mothers hearing has deteriorated over the last year to the point I had to really raise my voice to speak to her when I visited recently.

Is it something she can get on the NHS or is it something you have to purchase privately?

I need to run this by her first but I suspect she will say no due to, I'm guessing, not admitting to the ageing process/pride.

Some basic info from someone who has been in a similar situation would be helpful.

NHS hearing aids are them big ugly flesh coloured things you see at the back of old people's ears. Same design since the 1970's.

If you go private then they are tiny trendy looking things. £500 and up.

Bit like NHS glasses vs designer ones.
