                It provides an indication of which stocks may slide more than others. Bearing in mind this drop is an anomaly it's a good indication of which are oversold and which will rebound if you assume that the actual economy itself doesnt grind to a halt.

                  It gives you idea which company's directors try to use higher than others dividend payout in order to make their stock attractive to buyers like yourself.

                  Here is example Cable and Wireless:

                    Different scenario for C&W. I bought in for the divvy, took it and bailed straight out. They then decided that it was unsustainable, sacked the board and halved it. You do have to ensure that the business paying the divvy is paying from profit and not being stupid. Like C&W.

                    Standard Life is pretty consistent.

                    Dow down 600 points.
