    Libya - what's going on?

Let's face it, the sudden change in fortunes of the rebel forces and their sudden onslaught on the capital are the products of outside interference.

The NATO forces have gone way beyond their remit of protecting the civilian population & there are credible reports of western special forces on the ground directing operations.

Another thing I am struggling to come to terms with are these alleged crimes against humanity - what exactly has he done given that this is a theatre of war where sh!t happens?
I'm sure he has some blood on his hands but, by all accounts, the reports of his forces massacring thousands of unarmed civilians at the outset of this conflict are apocryphal to say the least.

Why not Assad? The Emir of Bahrain? Mugabe?

I thought we already had Gaddaffi in our pocket what with Blair's efforts to welcome him back into the fold. Surely better the devil you know rather than the faction riven "democracy" that will ensue?

The only thing I can think of was alluded to in today's Telegraph; if the rebels succeed, they will not be willing to sell any of their oil to Russia or China as they effectively opposed the military intervention.

    Oil.

It is, and has only ever been about,

    Oil.

He probably wanted to put the price up and some bean counter in the US of A worked out it would be a bit cheaper to kill him and nick it instead.

This is turning into a tale from 1001 Arabian Nights - the foolish thieves have been tricked and lured into Tripoli, a city of over a million who are armed and loyal to their benefactor.

Will the psychological damage of a false dawn take its toll? Will the unwitting agents of thieves from afar be trapped in the city with their supply lines cut off? The next chapter will be told upon the morrow.
