Best album of the 21st century?

Article in the beeb says Winehouse's Back to Black is the best selling album of the 21st C ahead of James Blunt (Back to Bedlam) and Dido (No Angel).

They cannot be the best albums of the century so far.

The problem is I am struggling to think of anything 'new' that I've bought/obtained recently.

There must be some good modern stuff?

    Help please.

They're not, they are the best selling.

Albums that are most acceptable to the widest audience aren't going to be exactly ground breaking, each genre will have more outstanding examples but they won't be to everyone's taste.

I'd say 'Songs for the Deaf' by QOTSA would be my top album of the last 11 years... maybe? Not really thought about it much.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Sonic Temple was good but I prefered Electric.

Good stuff indeed, but wrong millennium for the OP.

While those are very good albums I prefer their earlier efforts:

Pixies - Surfer Rosa (Nice pair on the album cover too. )

The Cult - Love (She Sells Sanctuary, with the bass on max. )

Only album I've bought so far this year is:

The Pierces - You & I (On the strength of seeing Glorious on the Glastonbury coverage this year, then checking out some of their other YouTube vids. Another nice pair but this time one blonde and one brunette. )
Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it
Feist - I Feel It All
Feist - The Bad In Each Other (Later With Jools Holland)

Yup, just looked on my iPod for any recent stuff I like but it seems 99% of my tunes are pre '95.

I'll add Beastie Boys, Licensed to Ill to my original list (corking album! - look for the remake of the fight for your right video on youtube with Frodo Baggins in it, quality.)

And add: 'Lily Allen, Its Not Me, It's You' as the one recent thing that springs to mind as something I really liked.
