Investors pile on safe haven lifeboat Britannia as the Euroliner sinks ...

Gilts as a safe haven for investors: Whatever floats your boat | The Economist

I suppose unlike most of Europe, Britain has a track record of succesfully making radical changes AND has an economy that can eventually deliver growth.
    Hard Brexit now!

Britain plans to issue £169 billion of bonds this year to cover the deficit, and to pay off £49 billion of debt that is coming due.

The rest of Europe does make radical changes; western Europe makes radical changes, but somewhat more gradually. Britain makes big changes in a short time and then gets stuck in the same mode for several years before the next big change, whereas the economies of Germany, Holland and so on just evolve to something different. As for eastern Europe, they made their radical changes very very quickly indeed.

Changes have to deliver growth: the PIIGS changed by taking large amounts of money from the EEC and becoming dependent and weak, Eastern Europe changed politically but its economies are not strong, Germany did indeed evolve with the Hartz reforms, but most of East Germany makes the North of England look like a veritable paradise, France is slowly and steadily becoming the new Italy.
        Hard Brexit now!

Might improve the food then. Bloody frogs still think they can cook.

True. Britain overtook France food-wise about 10 years ago. The Frogs still don't know it.

Like most things, Les Frogs will not accept that any one or any thing can be superior to the French versuíon.

I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong!

For prime London, that Express figure is conservative.
