Turkey to provide armed escort to Gaza ships-this should be interesting

    hmmm

Reports in the Israeli press suggested that Mr Lieberman could even announce plans to meet and even finance Turkey's Kurdish rebels.
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

What a washout that would be. As soon as Turkish warships enter Israeli waters, Israel has every right under International law to dispel them from their territory. Turkish warship life expectancy against Israeli F-16s about 1min 45s (flying time).

Turkey would be the aggressor here, NATO common defence pact wouldn't come into play.

This is Turkey just trying to play Billy big balls in the middle east now they know they've no chance of joining the EU

Turkey has 232 F-16s of their own and 116 F35As too.

Turkey is also a NATO member, Israel is not. The waters off of Gaza are not Israeli.

The Oslo accords ceded full authority for defence against external threats to Israel, that is what gave Israel authority to exert their control over Palestinian airspace and waters. That is why their Naval blockade has not been ruled illegal by the UN (it has been criticised though).

NATO's collective defence policy calls on member states to assist when a member is attacked. In this case Turkey would be seen as the aggressor. At least that is what the US would say.

However, they would be the ones flying into most probably one of the top five air defence systems in the world.

So that would be Turkey and possibly NATO minus USA vs Israel + USA.

Germany would also never take part in attack against Israel and in all probability try to defend it instead.

It's more likely the Army in Turkey would remove the PM.

16 missiles per ship, all it takes is Harpoon number 17 and it's good night.

Oh by the way DimPrawn, how the hell have the Turks got the JSF 5 years ahead of schedule? You been Wiki'ing again?
