Unions to host united day of action

So November 30th is when we discover how many people in the public sector we could sack and not notice.

BBC News - Unions call 'national day of action' over pensions

Should it not be a "day of inaction", or won't we be able to tell the difference?

Unfortunately (or fortunately) you will be able to tell if the teachers are on strike as there will be loads of brats around in the day. Though there will be less traffic in the morning.

What's the point of a 1 day strike?
In the 70s, people said "Right. We're not going back to work, until you give us more money". Then they either got the money they wanted, or they couldn't afford to strike any longer and went back.
Now they say "Right. We're not going back to work, until this time tomorrow". How on earth is that supposed to work?

I note it is a Wednesday. Usually they do this on a Friday or a Monday but even they have the requisite number of brain cells to realize that might make them look like lazy slackers.

            Agreed.

Even though union membership is higher in the public sector than private, and most teachers are in a union due to the threats from pupils and their parents, there are still enough people in the public sector who won't go on strike as they need the pay.

I also know from certain friends and family that they are happy to take holiday and get paid for it then be on strike.
