    Plan C?

Being into buying fine art as an investment I've been trolling the auction sites looking for suitable purchases (aided by a knowledgeable friend).

Came across an item of militaria in a fine art auction which was unusual but being interested in aviation anyway and thought it would be a nice thing to have I took a punt and won the item for £260.

Trying to find out more information I'd emailed a few specialist places hoping to get some background, just had an reply from one source offering me £5k for the item

Seems that the only other example is in the Smithsonian and the item is very rare, Christies have verified this too.

No idea how this one slipped through the net but looks like there's some valuable stuff out there to be had for pennies. Back trolling the sites...

Surprising what is valuable. There is a series in paperback of short stories in the theme of HP Lovecraft that was published for about 4 years in mid 1980s before the publisher went broke. Copies are now worth up to $400 each.

Christies will be back with a valuation in a few weeks. This one is staying in the collection.

Did you actually mean "trawling the auction sites"
