    Rules of contracting

    Following on from Mav's

    Rule #3 of Contracting:

Contractors are always better dressed than permies.
Shouldn't we be compiling a list and add it to the welcome section for the newbies?

    I'll start off with

    Rule #1

    Under all circumstances keep invoicing

#5 Trust no-one who says they'll put it in writing later.

This is applicable for everything from contract negotiation to permies trying to drop you in it and steal all the credit.

            6. Don't park your Aston in the directors reserved space. (a chap at my last gig actually did this and got canned!)

In response to the first post.

              Dress differently.

Make sure you do not look like the permies. If dress code is casual be smart, if it is smart then be casual or uber smart.
              Just saying like.

              where there's chaos, there's cash !

I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong!

Your client is an idiot. At best they simply haven't revealed the reason yet.

Rule #4: Always have a better laptop than the client's. (Not difficult, this one)
