Any sugesstions for a weekend plaything (car not woman)

I'm shortly after a weekend plaything but I'm not overly flushed at the moment so criteria would be:

    - £10000 budget
    - Must be 4 seat (or 2+2)
    - Prefer an older Sports model where the depreciation has hit bottom.
    - Must be reasonably fast.

    Shortlist so far:

    - 1980's 2 Door Sierra Cosworth
    - Lotus Carlton (though it would be the bottom end of the market)
    - TVR Cerbera
    - BMW 1980's M3 (Again, arse end of the market though)

Any more thoughts / suggestions / owning experiences?

    Ta

don't get me started - been doing this search for the last 6 months.

you will get a M3 from about 2004/2005 with 40-60k on the clock if you look

have recently seen some S4 ragtops for under 10k with only about 40k on the clock.

Have you considered an R33 skyline GTR?

a decent cossie will set you back more than 10k - if you get one for under 10k it will be a dog ditto the lotus.

cerbera is a good option too!

Nissan 350z is a great handling car but is a 2+very small 2

          I've had 6 Skylines already...1 R32 GTR, 4 x R33 GTR and 1 x R34 GTR so ready for a change.

I have seen a few for the 9 or 10 grand that look OK, I'm not talking RS500 obviously.

They don't do anything for me.

Also thought about classic 930 shape 911. Seen a few hovering around 10K but don't know if you're buying into trouble with that age of car for that money...

I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong!

I suggest something 18 years old with a nice behind.

Out of that list I'd go for the M3. Should be more reliable than many older sporty cars that may be cheap to buy but not necessarily cheap to run. Not many proper sports cars under 10k appeal to me for that reason.

Had a Cerbera. Lots of fun when it wasn't broken. Each visit to the dealer cost a grand+. Not sure if there are cheaper ways of getting them fixed these days since TVR went kaput.

Had a Sierra Sapphire (not cosworth) as a commuter tulipbox. Very old fashioned and disappointing, not aged well, and that was over 10 years ago! I'd go for a Pug 205 GTI 1.9 if you want something of that era. Or maybe a Pug 306 GTI for something more modern but still handles well.

If I was looking for something like that and it needed to have 4 seats I'd also consider a Renault Clio 172 or 182 (99% the same apart from the 182 having slightly more power and twin exausts). Very good cars for the money, and decent ones are a lot less than 10k.
Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

Looks like you could get a half-decent RX8 for that money, just.
