My current Sandy Bridge with 16gb ram is plenty good enough for my current needs. Even with several VMs running at the same time it barely scratches the resources.
I don't think these are really next generation, more fat generation. More capability from the same tech by using more cores and channels.
The proper next gen starts next year with Ivy Bridge.
I'm expecting the low end ones will be priced around the same as the current ones i.e. £230 or so for the cheapest one and £450-500 for the slower six core one, plus £200 for the motherboard.
With 4 memory channels (and 8 sockets with 4GB each) that's going to be a cheaper way to get 32GB than 4 x 8GB DIMMs at £220 a pop.
