Anyone been watching A New Life Down Under?

    TV programme.

Fed up Brits dreaming of a new life in Aus/NZ get to spend some time there, look at houses, jobs, schools, cost of living etc and decide whether to leave Blighty or stay put.

Well, there's a common sticking point I've noticed. Buying their new home down under requires them selling their home here. Trouble is when the programme makers send in the estate agents to value it, the figure is WAY lower then their expectations.

Last one thought their house would be worth about £800K and the hightest figure the estate agents came up with was £400K!

Talk about people living in cloud cuckoo land.

..And then when they get here to Aus they will find 400K sterling buys them nothing anywhere they would actually want to live.

The trouble with miserable gits moving to NZ/Aus is that they're still miserable gits when they get there.

Most would do better to just reassess their own attitude to life.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

You can say the same about most expats, eh?

True, but for most of them they can work half the number of hours and overall have more money at the end of the month taking into account taxes and bills. In the UK they are working themselves to death and at the end of the month have fook all to spend!

If only they hadn't paid £500K for a bedsit above a kebab shop they'd be able to leave. Sadly they are UK debt slaves now.

Those countries have immigration policies though.

The couples on the programme all have skills and professions that would get them in. E.g. nurses, teachers etc. They get to spend some time on the programme working for an employer that would sort out the work permits.

Unlike the UK, you have to be of some use to get in.

It's the British who f*cked this country up and a certain few want to escape before things really go titsup, who can blame them?
