There must have been a major warm spell around 2000 years ago too, because that's about the time Otzi the Iceman went for a swim.

Although he was found partially embedded in ice, where he had been for over 5000 years, he and all his gear was in such disarray that the only conclusion was that all the ice around him had melted to a large puddle and everything, including the remains of Otzi, had floated about before refreezing (and picking up in the process pollen and suchlike that has been dated to around the time of Christ).
