OK so I've been seriously looking for 6 mths now, many tulip contacts from tulip agents wanting 2 references etc usual rubbish.

3 interviews in that time, first one claimed it was all competency based and gave the contract to someone who knew someone etc lol

Yesterday was asked to give a presentation as part of the extended interview and the tulip manager couldn't shut her mouth all through the presentation grrrr I was very polite but that wasn't how I wanted to behave

Sick of the daily trawl through jobserve so I wondered what everyone else uses, I tried totaljobs and monster but don't seem to get any contacts with those.

I know the market is bad atm but I didn't realise it was that bad.

Yeah, I know, currently getting back into it after a couple years caring for parents.

I've been doing the /yawn ITIL V3 familiarisation.

To date it's been mostly business analysis in property/asset management, procurement, e- procurement, credit cards and stuff with some exposure to SAP. FI/CO/Real Estate.

One of the biggest problems though is convincing the bored resourcer that 'I can do that, gissa job' If you cannot demonstrate very recent exerience, it seems to be assumed that you are a terrorist just released from prison lol

Maybe contracting isn't for you? Go back permie where you can sulk about your management all you want and still get to keep your job? A client facing arena doesn't sound like your bag at all I am afraid.

Now if you have charisma, empathy and can see the good in everyone, a bit like myself for example, you will be fine.

Having watched the forums for a while, I did wonder if you would benefit me with your usual tulip advice. Thank you, as expected, it is measured, constructive and highly detailed. In short, mega tulip.

tbh it doesn't sound like yours either unless you save your bile and vitriol for your anonymous, hide behind a screen persona which you use to vent your RL frustrations.

FYI, contracting has been fine for me for the last 25 years, I was one of the original contributors both financially and otherwise to the foundation of the PCG - I simply wanted to know about the market since I've been away.

I have had a good career for many years, brushing aside smart*** comments like yours with ease. I guess that's as good a way as any to get back into it.

You've got to hustle a bit.

Put yourself about on LinkedIn, tell people what you're doing/reading/learning. Answer questions on your specialty.

And update your CV with the latest fad/method/language - go on a course that contains the flavour of the month keyword (which is what I'll be doing ready to go hunting in the New Year).

We don't know you from Adam, tractor, had you given context I'm sure the advice given would have been different. We know NLUK and usually his advice is straight to the point.

I am doing those things. I also change my cv ever so slightly on Jobswerve every couple of days. I simply wondered whether it was still the best place or whether there were better options that had become available in the last couple of years.

Apologies too, I don't normally feed the trolls but there is really no need for Northern to insult everyone who asks any kind of question here. He could have easily resisted the temptation to troll.

Thing is, thanks to Broadbean and other meta-engines, most of the boards are the same as far as the agencies are concerned - upload once and let the program scatter it across their selected list of sites, including all the "specialist" ones like Cityjobs. So there probly isn't a "better" job board any more...
