    New Incompetence

The government has admitted it has massively overpaid tax credits to families for the second year in a row.
The Commons Public Accounts Committee estimates that in 2004-05 Revenue & Customs (HMRC) overpaid claimants by £2.2bn, the same amount as in 2003-04.

The MPs also say problems continue to plague the working of the HMRC tax credit computer system.

Hundreds of readers have contacted the BBC with stories of tax credit overpayment and administrative errors.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke says he will not resign after 1,023 foreign prisoners were freed without being considered for deportation.
He said he does not know where most of the offenders, who include three murderers and nine rapists, are.

He admits that a growth in foreign prisoners had led to the Home Office taking its "eye off the ball".

The Lib Dems accused ministers of incompetence. The Tories are demanding Mr Clarke answer to Parliament.

The NHS is in the grip of a financial crisis.

The BBC News website examines why this is happening at a time when the health service is getting record amounts of money?

    What is happening?

One in four NHS trusts failed to balance their books in 2004-5, leaving the NHS with a deficit of £250m.

Although figures are not yet available for the most recent financial year, the situation is widely predicted to have worsened.

In recent weeks, more than 6,000 job cuts have been announced as trusts try to stay in the black.

The Liberal Democrats claim four times as many jobs could eventually go.

Health bosses are also taking other measures, including closing wards and delaying operations.

The people who decide elections are those in a small number of urban constituencies and they really don't care as long as the disability benefits keep flowing and the public sector non-jobs keep being created (on the off-chance they fancy working for a change).

Hey, Master! If The Doctor can defeat the Daleks - and he gave them a good hiding on more than one occasion - surely you could do something about a bunch of incompetent socialists.

The solution is rather simple...introduce a flat tax system that would remove those who rely on tax credits from the tax system and voila...the system goes away.

              All rather simple really

It is. But this goes against the very <Fleetwood Shield Up>raison d'etre</Fleetwood Shield Up> of one Gordon Brown, who needs all this unnecessary meddling to obfuscate his incompetence.
