BBC: M5 shut as 'several people' die in 27-vehicle crash
Assistant Chief Constable Anthony Bangham, of Avon and Somerset Police, said "several people" had died but he could not yet be specific about numbers.
He said: "The incident was very, very challenging and on arrival crews were faced with literally one massive fireball.
"Most vehicles were well alight and most continued to burn for a considerable time. This made it very difficult to search the vehicles. Some of them have been burned to the ground."Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.Comment

One report was people were driving too fast in fog. But so far, no official cause given.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

It happened just after an entry sliproad.
It could have been triggered by someone joining the carriageway. Perhaps a vehicle slammed on its brakes to avoid them, then other vehicles skidded on the wet surface and either hit what was in front of them or swerved sideways into someone else, etc, etc.Comment
