Do you still need a separate company secretary for a Ltd?

When I formed my company, you did. But I vaguely recall reading about this being changed. Can anyone categorically confirm/reject this?

Whilst legally there is no requirement to have a Company Secretary any more, if you have your spouse/partner as a shareholder, you may wish to consider appointing them as Company Secretary in case you wish to claim Entrepreneur's Relief in the future.

To quote from the HMRC guidance -
you must be either an officer or employee of that company
