    BBC News - DIY search engine takes on Google

    Sounds like a good idea. It would make sense for my PC to crawl and index sites I'm interested in. Although I have already done most of them myself.

    Time for SKA to move over?
    This would imply that "SKA" was actually a viable contender. How many years has this white elephant been 'in development'? Search engines have come and gone in the meantime, heck, even MC Hammer has launched one.

        What we need is one centralised crawl database where sites can submit pages for recrawl when they change.

        There must be loads of bandwidth being wasted by the current method of having hundreds of different search bots crawling the same site several times a week or day when not much has actually changed on the site. i.e the current method was designed by s.
