Patrick Moore and Arthur C. Clarke

    waffling on about Moonbases.

BBC - BBC One Programmes - The Sky at Night, 1963 Bases on the Moon

    Way back in 1963.

And that was directed by this guy:

Richard Marquand - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

May the Force be with you.

Clarkey's predictions were almost spot on for the moon landings, but, sadly, way out for Mars.

I saw a clip of that a few weeks ago and thought, jeez, Patrick looks like Jabba the Hut.

So I googled and found something completely off topic, but what the hell.

What happens in General, stays in General.

My Grandfather (well, the one of the two that I got to meet) was at school with Arthur C. Clarke.

Unfortunately, I didn't realise that until a few years after Grandad died when I was listening to a programme about Arthur on Radio 4 and connected when he was born and where he went to school.

There could have been some fascinating conversations that I never got the chance to have.

        I'll never know now.

My mother knew that they had been at school together when I asked her, but I only got a one-word answer which is normally a warning not to try digging any further.

Back when unfathomable amounts of taxpayers' money were blown on stuff that was actually quite interesting?

Be warned; you'll start me off again.
