Somehow BMW managed to take a situation where motoring journos sneered at the Ford Sierra for being the last rear-wheel drive car in its class and make into one where charging twice as much for an equivalent product that is more common that the Ford of the same size works.

Before BMW marketing gurus twiddled with everything, a two or three door car was poeverty spec - now they actually charge more for fewer doors.

It is all smoke and mirrors and more fool anyone who pays the premium because of their own self-esteem issues.
