    R.I.P. Saab?

    Car-maker Saab files for bankruptcy

There is still a small chance the bankruptcy administrator could sell the brand, but experts say that would most likely involve chopping up the company into smaller parts.

Swedish Automobile said Chinese investors pulled out of attempts to finance Saab's reorganisation after their last proposal for a solution was rejected by GM, which sold the brand in 2010 but still owns some technology licenses.
Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.

Weren't the recent ones based on the Vectra? If so, may as well get a Vectra for a couple of grand.

Occasionally considered one, along with the Alfa 159, as they seemed to depreciate lots so 3 to 5 year ones are peanuts, but figured there must be a reason for that above average bad depreciation.
Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

No they just shared a floor pan. Engines were from across the GM range with diesels from Alfa Romeo. I owned 3 Saabs over the years and they have all been understated, comfortable (but seriously fecking quick).

My first Saab was a 1999 93 aero convertible. I ticked every option box and it was a hell of a lot better than any BMWs on the road at the time, unlike the BMW's people would wander up and say thats a seriously nice car and want to talk about it.
Then in 2005 when Saab got the Holden 2.8 twin scroll turbo I bought a 93 2.8 Aero for me, and a 95 aero Estate for My wife. I ditched the 93 after a year (better to drive than my first 93 but the interior just annoyed me) but I still have the 95 (well I did until the weekend anyway)

Saab lost much of its advantage once most of the other car makers started making turbo based models

If thats it for Saab I will be genuinely sad to see them go.

One of my mates had one of those and got it cheap because his brother in law worked in the motor trade.

Had to flog it when it came to divorce and that upset him more than losing the house.

                So you've never driven one?

I didn't pay Merc money for the one I had - one of your beloved German Cortinas of a similar age with concrete seats and a two foot diameter steering wheel and dangerous handling didn't really appeal - as you suggest, I'd have paid twice as much for something half as good.

One of the best I drove was a souped up 9000.

It was definitely a tax fiddle by the original owner (in my humble opinion). Some imaginative use of the VAT rules - getting the car delivered then claiming the VAT back on extras to bring it up to a better spec, but still having a log book for company car tax liability which said "basic model".

It was somewhat quicker than the standard 9000 Turbo.
