Quite. It should be at the weekend, not on the weekend. Yoof today...

Er, sorry to sound thick, but what is wrong with connecting a lead-acid battery to a project?

      Sounds quite enterprising to me.

        Apparently you get smoke.

Rather depends how you do it, I suspect.

Now, the PIC in the project has an absolute max voltage of about 7.5V.

            The maximum voltage is 5.5V.

A 6V lead acid will give about 6.9V when fully charged.

And of course, if you are incautious and connect it back to front...

            Anyway, he's buggered off now.

And so has the other feckwhit.

            and thrice

It really gets my goat that I'm supposed to do their projects for them.

Which part of "it's your project, you fecking fix it" is difficult to understand.

Sending smoke signals would be more useful than the non functional radio project.

            Oh.

I forgot that he's back feeding a 7805 regulator as well, I'll bet that smoked too.

                That's very kind of him.

Is there much smoke in those?

                We need to know.

Shouldn't it have basic diode protection z?

Anyway, seeing as you are CUK's electronics expert, can you tell me how much my box of old 1970's 7400s is worth now? Must be thousands I expect.
