    Lib Dem landslide

    It's only a council by-election but...

    Madeley Ward, Newcastle-under-Lyme BC. LD gain from Lab. LD 617 (47.7%, +21.7), Lab 342 (26.4%, -7.9), Con 294 (22.7%, -8.9), UKIP 41 (3.2%, -4.8). Swing of 14.8% from Lab to LD.

I thought all the polls were saying the Lib Dems were dead in the water?? Or is there something fishy going on here?

Would have thought Newcastle way would have been Labour stronghold.

I would guess that there was some special circumstances here, perhaps the labour candidate was involved in a scandal? I would not make a prediction based on this.
"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." Cicero

They're both 'up north' to me.

WHS. And both no doubt full of benefit sponging chavs who'd never vote Tory anyway.
                  Hard Brexit now!

Local and national are too different things. I think that the local LD council has been better than the Labour one was before that, so would vote LD at the next local elections.

I wouldn't do the same thing in a general election, though.
