    Copy and paste

Everyone seems to use CTRL, C and V for copy and paste, but for as long as I can remember I've used CNTRL-INSERT and SHIFT-INSERT respectively for these operations. Anyone else?

Yes, I am old school too. Picked up when I was programming QuickBasic, PDS 7.1 and VB DOS back around the late 80s early 90s.

I use both Copy and Paste keysets now though.

I usually use ctrl-x,c,v on windows but ctrl-insert shift-insert works on some (most?) linux terminals so I use that sometimes as well.

Ctrl + C,V can be used one handed whilst still using the mouse in right hand.

            WHS.

When you look at someone like AtW who uses the other approach & copies & posts everything on CUK you're able to calculate that he's wasted an extra 3 years of his life so far using that method.

On the other hand AtW would never be able to learn the 'new way' of CTRL+C/V/X.

CTRL-INS, SHIFT-INS, SHIFT-DEL can be used one-handed whilst still using the mouse in the LEFT hand.

Being left-handed Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V, Ctrl-X is so painful to use I only ever do it when really necessary ... like when applications are badly written and do not support CTRL-INS, SHIFT-INS, SHIFT-DEL very well.

It seems to me that BOTH methods need to be kept around for good so everyone is happy.

I never suggested that either method should be discarded. I was simply pointing out a possible reason why ctrl+C,V is more popular than the alternative method
