    Objecting to a wedding?

    Hi all,

Thought I'd ask this here as no-one knows me and due to some peoples age and experience, they may be able to help.

First of all, I'm bound to get some snide comments or feedback, but this is a serious question and I would like sensible responses. We are not against marriage and have fully supported friends and family getting married in the past.

It is a bit hard to explain, without too many revealing details, but on the OH's side of the family, there is a family member who is going to get married. Everyone across the family and family-in-laws really have issues with this and find it quite disgusting, never mind the general public opinion. They seem to find that disowning this person is just, but we feel a little stronger.

They will probably get married in a registry office to save money, but we all would like to know of any way we could object, delay or put off the marriage at all? There is no legal reason (such as being brother and sister) but it is more disgusting than that, but there may be religious reasons why. Apart from accusing them of not being of sound mind, what else can be done?

Nothing. The reasons for banns of marriage being read out is due to the strong possibility in olden days that Brothers and Sisters would try to marry each other. Up to the 1950's adoption was often done on the QT so the church needed to check that x and y were not directly related.

Turn up uninvited. That should send them running.

What could possibly be so terrible that you'd want to go to those lengths to try and stop someone getting married?

Live and let live FFS. (isn't that the motto we all live by in General?)

wim spent his youth working in offices full of hot young gay men and he never had the confidence to get any boy action. The rest is just the clockwork of personal disintegration.

Actually in a different family wedding the OH is going to be a bridesmaid and we got thanked for keeping calm when this other person was around, even though others didnt and for the thought we had put in to booking ahead to be there as much as needed over the wedding period.

Why would anyone want a total twat like you at their wedding anyway?

If there is no legal reason why they can't get married, and you object during the ceremony, you could yourself be taken to court.

Come on, what could be so bad to elicit this response to a wedding? Gay? B/W? Proddy/Catholic? Hindu/Muslim? TV?

Either way it's not really for you to try and f-up someone else's life is it?
