    Anti non smoking day

The council (downstairs from clientco) are having a non smoking day with some poor sod spending all day by reception trying to identify and annoy all the smokers.

Why was my instant reaction to go and buy a few cigars. The last one I had was 20 years ago.

Nothing guaranteed to make people smoke more than hassling them.

Anyway I am not sure how the government would recouperate the lost tax if everyone gave up?

No shame in working for the council. I know there’s a reputation for dead wood perms etc, but there are always exceptions to the rule.

I don't work for the council. clientco rents the upstairs of an office off them as its partly a data centre.

The council datacentre has just been outsourced to big blue's cloud .

I was watching TV the other night enjoying a couple of glasses of wine when on came some public information film telling us that too much drinking increases your chance of getting mouth cancer by ten fold.

I had actually put the cork back in the bottle at that point but seeing that ad made me polish off the rest. Nothing like a bit of nannying finger wagging to provoke you to do completely the opposite.

Damn right, you stick it to them. Agonising death by cancer is a small price to pay for teaching someone a lesson not to tell you things.

Point I was trying to make was that scare tactics tend to be counter productive.

A point well made by Alan Carr in his quit smoking programme which was the thing that got me off the weed where looking at pics of diseased lungs & all the other anti smoking campaigns failed.

But yes, that particular campaign is targetted at people who enjoy a couple of glasses in the evening and I personally think it's misguided. Don't you think they'd be better off targetting their efforts on the binge drinkers?

Once you realise that it's all lobbyist and fake charity manoeuvres in a grab for more cash, you'll simply switch off the TV for good and discover just how wonderful life is without the continual screeching of the Orcs.
