Well what I meant was, he was one of the most significant people who shaped the world of the 20th century.

Would someone else have invented Nazis and how different would they have been? Would we have had that war? All that kind of stuff.

Lots of people have speculated on what it could have been like later if the Nazis had won the war, from Fatherland to Misfits, but nothing much about if there had been no Hitler.

          Mussolini (Italy)

          just to name three.
If it wasn't Hitler then it would have been some one else. Europe was ripe for a "cultural readjustment"

Well Hitler did not create National Socialism, but he did help articulate and promote its ideology.
Given the excesses of Stalin would it be a good or bad thing to join a party that saw the threat of communism to Germany as something worthy of violence to stop?

But would the war have happened anyway?

Given the unease within the German Military at risking war for the Austrian & Czech adventures it is unlikely that a less competent orator could have carried the nation so far & the horrors of WWI were still pretty fresh to the population, so my guess would be something along the lines of Franco - a pretty much localised and introverted nation
