London 2012: Missiles may be placed at residential flats

BBC News - London 2012: Missiles may be placed at residential flats

Wouldn't it be misconstrued as cheating if say the leading 9 runners in the 100m sprint were vaporised and the 10th UK runner achieved a stunning, if slightly charred, victory?

So, all the terrorists need now is to ambush small defensive team at one of those houses and start firing up missiles??!?!

        That doesn't sound very sporting.

estate resident Brian Whelan said firing the missiles "would shower debris across the east end of London".
Like you'd be able to notice the difference in that tuliphole anyway

They've started right on time winding up the media machine

Have people never wondered why they put the dates/times when nuclear subs go to and from Faslane in the papers and get the familys to wave the subs off. After all they're supposed to be "stealthy".

Simple answer. What point is a deterrent if no-one knows its there. Half the stories you hear from now to Opening Ceremony will be strategically placed to inform anyone of trying anything stupid.

FWIW a HVM battery on the roof of a tower block = minimal strategic importance. Telling people a missile battery is in London = much greater strategic importance.

                1) It's an old tradition to do that
                2) you can't hide the fact that sub leaving/entering dock anyway

OK given, but its still a valid point (especially as its a publicly acknowledged tactic)
