The myths of Investment banking glamour

Banking Burnouts Blow Away Myths of Wall Street Glamour - Bloomberg

    ....I like this statement:

The only models were Excel models
doesn't that sum up an IT career...

which reminds me of an attractive colleague some years ago who went on a training course, and we jokingly said it must have been gr8 just you and all those men. "There were no men" she said "just IT specialists".

    Great thread. Very true.

"In fact, money didn’t seem to make any of the bankers happy". Indeed. Its just a modern day jungle with everyone trying to prove they are "best" and money is how the score is kept.

Some contractors think if they join an IB they are going to be doing the best IT. In fact most is mediocre. THere is alot of shouting. And commuting is horrific.

Actually I think I have had enough. I am going to leave Investment Banking this Friday.....

True, the tech is often dated and the job menial and boring. The benefit is the money, oh and the drinking culture - which is a good laugh but can take a toll on your health after a while.

Absolutely ....I've come to the conclusion that the permie Systems Engineer in Milton Keynes who earns enough to pay his mortgage doesn't realise how good he's got it.

Forget enjoyment. Turn Up at the bank and do minimum hours for maximum pay (niche skill contracting). Save mOst of your cash and get out before you are too old

Banking is the right Place for those ITers that have realised that the only game worth playing in IT is making as much $ as possible before bailing out, hopefully young enough to do something meaningful

If you want training courses and bonding events stay away.

When I think of Investment banking I always picture these clean cut go-getter James Bond types in Italian suits and hand crafted leather shoes. driving sports cars with a pretty gal by their side. Jetting off to Monte Carlo for an evening fun at the tables before returning to the mysterious world of international financial espionage.
Confusion is a natural state of being

Thats just how I behaved when I met you. As soon as I crossed Trafalgar square I switched back to my chinos. And bowler hat.

I kid you not, the last IBM permies I worked with Oop North might not have had a great salary and drove boring cars but they managed to have rather nice homes in good areas.
